Can on-street parking really be managed?

The problem of parking is not limited to a few cities in the country but has gained enormous attention all over the world. However, even then the problem is still persisting and many of the taken steps have been failing or have very minute effect on today’s parking space problem. So is there anything that can be done?

The answer to that question is yes, it can be done and the parking issues will be resolved but it is going to take time and patience and most importantly co-operation of the ones who park their vehicles on streets.

The current picture of parking

The current scenario is that people park their vehicles any where they find an empty space be it an allocated parking lot or the entry area to a shop or a house, neglecting the inconvenience caused to other individuals. The results of doing so have never been in the favour of the driver, either the vehicle has been towed away or the locals take the authority and deflate the tyres in some cases.

What can be done?

There are existing solutions to parking but still people are not using them and the end result is that half of the roads which should be witnessing the running traffic are now converted to vehicle parking. The time has come when common people have to get involved and not let the solution burden on the shoulders of the authorities. Various paid parking services have been designed and allocated but they all are underused. People have to be encouraged to use them and they also have to be acknowledged on the big picture of the problem.

The result

The authorities have taken several measures and steps to curb the parking problem and the situation has improved in some areas of the cities but a lot has to be done. Most measures for parking spaces are abandoned after a short period of time and new ones are introduced.  It is important that these steps should be effective for a considerable amount of time and people should also be made aware of it.

The final word
